Success for "The Home Song Stories" and "Call Me Mum" at 2007 AFI Awards
Tony Ayres’ The Home Song Stories and Margot Nash’s Call Me Mum have both triumphed at the 2007 L’Oreal Paris AFI Awards, winning an extraordinary 9 awards from nominations in 15 categories.
Writer/Director Tony Ayres was awarded Best Direction and Best Screenplay for his semi-autobiographical feature film The Home Song Stories, while Joan Chen travelled to Australia as a guest of the AFI to collect her award for Best Lead Actress for her sensational performance in the film.
The team behind The Home Song Stories were also successful at the awards Industry Night, taking home the awards for Best Cinematography (Nigel Bluck), Best Editing (Denise Haratzis ASE), Best Musical Score (Antony Partos), Best Production Design (Melinda Doring) and Best Costume Design (Cappi Ireland).
Margot Nash's Call Me Mum was also recognized at the Awards, with Vicki Saylor taking home the AFI award for Best Guest or Supporting Actress in Television Drama. Call Me Mum was Vicki’s first role in a film or telemovie.
We also extend our congratulations to Paddy Reardon, who was the recipient of the AFI Award for Outstanding Achievement in Screen Craft for his production design work on Call Me Mum and several other local productions.
